    Regular exercise. Exercising regularly significantly reduces your diabetes risk, independent of weight. Research shows people who walk briskly for at least two and half hours each week, had a 30 per cent lower chance of developing type 2 diabetes than those who did almost no walking. Increased physical activity can also lower your blood sugar levels even before you lose weight.
