To test the effectiveness of group assertive training, twenty-four people were randomly assigned to a combined assertive training/ Relationship-Control group for eight individual sessions. The sessions lasted four weeks. During the first session, participants were familiarized with the assessment form. They were also instructed on how to answer questions to demonstrate their own assertive behavior. Thus, in the second session, they were required to demonstrate how they would use assertive verbal and nonverbal communication to help solve conflicts in the workplace.

In the third session, all participants were asked to complete an assertive training inventory. Their inventories included how they responded to situations in the past six months. At the end of the sixth month's session, all participants were asked to complete the same assertive training inventory in order to evaluate the progress that had been made.
