There was a lot of negative press surrounding the recent merger of Australian media giants SMM and Australian company WAP during which Adelaide's premier media personality was critical of the new South Wales-based digital media arm of the largest media group in Australia. But does public relations Adelaide or PR Adelaide still have relevance these days? The answer may surprise you.

Well, there was a very lively debate on the Business Spectator website between prominent public relations thinkers who were commenting on the recent announcement by SMM that it would be acquiring WAP. And while the larger media group's CFO suggested that the acquisition would help them move forward in the business and marketing space, others such as WAP Managing Editor Michael Davidson fretted that the acquisition of WAP would open up a new flood of competition for the market leaders such as SMM. So is there still a role for public relations Adelaide?
