Some experts in proofreading, including the American Printing House for the Blind, have compiled an impressive list of the top free online proofreading courses and programs, including proofreading certificate, online proofreading courses, free proofreading courses for beginners, and free proofreading certificate courses to teach personal document proofreading. The list was created by Richard T. Colbath, PhD, senior lecturer and research professor in the Information Systems Department at the University of Reading, UK. He is also the author of a book about proofreading, "Automated Proofreading: Tips and Tricks."

The top five online proofreading courses are: A Proofreaders Course, Online Proofreading, An Introduction to Proofreading, Nvu Proofreaders, and Nvu Reading Certificate. The number indicates the number of days required for students to complete the course, which takes about two weeks on average.
